Treatments You Can Trust

All treatments are provided following a full face to face no obligation consultation to discuss your areas of concern. Following this, if you wish to proceed, a mutually agreed treatment plan will be developed. We encourage patients to take time to consider if they wish to go ahead with an injectable treatment and if so to book in for this at a later date. For your safety a confidential medical history is taken and the risks and benefits explained in full. You will be asked to sign a consent form for treatment plus consent to clinical photography as a condition of insurance.

What is Botulinum Toxin and is it safe?
Commonly known as Botox TM Botulinum Toxin Type A is a purified protein extracted from bacteria. Its use in aesthetics was discovered by accident in the 1980s when it was injected near the eyes of patients experiencing sight problems. Scientists noticed a reduction in wrinkles in these patients and it was subsequently licensed and marketed for treatment in Aesthetics.

In the UK there are four brands of Botulinum Toxin licensed for use: - Botox by Allergan; Azzalure by Galderma, Bocouture by Merz and more recently Letybo by Croma. These products have undergone rigorous safety testing and have been licensed by the MHRA (The Medications and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency).

Botulinum Toxin is administered by intramuscular injection and works by temporarily blocking signals from the nerve endings to the muscle fibres. The effects are temporary and repeat treatments are needed approximately every 3-4 months although some patients require less frequent treatments. The Botulinum Toxin chart in the gallery illustrates this activity. To prevent the formation of antibodies which may render toxin administration ineffective treatment should not be repeated more often than every 12 weeks.

As a prescription only medication Botulinum Toxin should only be prescribed following a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber. All medications can result in side effects although Botulinum Toxin has a relatively good safety profile when used in Aesthetics. Absolute contraindications to treatment include a known allergy to the product, pregnancy and breast feeding mothers and people with neurological disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis and Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
